Waiting ...

This is a poem I wrote for my writing class toward the beginning of the semester. I've wanted to share it on here, but I didn't know when. Today seems like a good day to do it. Enjoy!

Waiting …

I don’t really care.

Yes you do.

If you didn't

you wouldn’t be

looking over your shoulder,

checking your phone,

Sitting alone

Waiting …

for him to walk through the door.

If you didn’t care

you’d be playing games

engaging in conversation

catching up with weekly friends.

Not

sitting here alone

Waiting …

for him to notice.

You do care.

Just admit it.

That’s the reason you’re here.

Not for kids,

not for games,

not for any deeper level spirituality.

You’re here

to sit alone

and Wait

for the boy

who will never …

walk through that door

and Wait for you.
